Ensemble Monterey’s 2015 – 2016 Season
Prepare to be Dazzled!
Sunday, October 4th, 2015, 7 PM, Peace United Church of Christ, Santa Cruz
Our opening concert features exciting compositions for string orchestra, beginning with the Shostakovich Chamber Symphony. Haydn’s delightful and energetic Piano Concerto Number 2 showcases the extraordinary talents of pianist Lucy Faridany. And we are proud to present a world premiere by double Emmy Award-winning local composer John Wineglass – his String Symphony Number 1. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of the Central Coast’s most gifted piano soloists and an important world premiere!
Winds of the Exotic
Saturday, November 7th, 2015, 8 PM, St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, Carmel
Sunday, November 8th, 2015, 7 PM, Peace United Church of Christ, Santa Cruz
A concert for wind orchestra featuring a very rarely heard set of Renaissance dances from the court of Beatrice d’Este, Baroness of Milan. Flute soloist Lars Johannesson performs Charles Gounod’s exquisite Petite Symphonie, a French romantic gem originally written for legendary Flutist Paul Taffanel. And to go really exotic we include Carlos Chavez’s Xochipilli, An Imagined Aztec Music. Xochipilli features solos on conch shell as well as a chorus of six Aztec percussion instruments. Winds of the Exotic will keep you on the edge of your seat!
The Three Soloists!
Sunday, April 10th, 2016, 7 PM, Peace United Church of Christ, Santa Cruz
This concert features three dazzling, and very different solos. Trumpet soloist Barbara Hull is featured in André Jolivet’s Trumpet Concerto Number 2. It is a bold, aggressive and daring piece which balances on the border between jazz and the classics. From the same composer, Soprano Lori Schulman will perform the Suite Liturgique, a lyrically gorgeous work that seeks to recreate the ancient modes of the classic Greeks. Finally, another world premiere – this from favorite local composer Stephen Tosh, who has written the Concertino for Solo Violin and Ensemble specifically for Concertmaster David Dally and Ensemble Monterey.
Saturday, May 14th, 2016, 8 PM, Carmel Mission Basilica, Carmel
