ray “The Best of Both Worlds” brings together the elite classical forces of Ensemble Monterey with some of our region’s very best jazz artists. Ray Brown is a jazz legend and a Santa Cruz cultural treasure. He is one of the nation’s premier jazz composers and arrangers. Joining him for these performances will be Saxophonist Paul Contos, Pianist Eddie Mendenhall, Bassist Stan Poplin, and set drummer Steve Robertson. Mix these virtuoso players with Ensemble Monterey, shake, and stand back! Hornist John Orzel is known and loved by Monterey Bay audiences and is one of Ensemble Monterey’s founding musicians. He solos with Russian virtuoso Alexander Glazunov’s lovely Reverie, a lyric piece for Horn and Strings. Alberto Williams is known as the “Father of Argentine Music.” His Tercera Suite Argentina is a suite of Argentine folk songs at once both fiery and sweet. Don’t miss this incredible concoction of “The Best of Both Worlds.”
