In a season finale tradition, the acclaimed vocal ensemble Cantiamo! joins Ensemble Monterey for a concert of masterpieces both old and new. First, the string orchestra performs an all-time favorite, Edvard Grieg’s haunting Peer Gynt Suite. Two well-established Twentieth Century masterpieces follow. John Corigliano’s Fern Hill is a lyric setting of the epic Dylan Thomas poem, for chorus, orchestra and alto soloist. Cecil Effinger’s Four Pastorales sets the poetry of Thomas Hornsby Ferril, the beloved former Poet Laureate of Colorado. The Four Pastorales is scored for chorus and oboe soloist. Tarik O’Regan’s The Ecstasies Above is a new piece which caused an electrifying sensation at its’ premiere. Be sure to join us as Ensemble Monterey and Cantiamo! present its first Central Coast performance.
