Our Third Annual Fundraiser, Wine, Women and Song, was held on October 5th at the Seascape Golf Club. Back by popular demand, Stephen Tosh and The Divas entertained us and Dinah Phillips returned as our auctioneer. The Silent and LIVE auction was a hit, and in spite of these uncertain economic times, we successfully raised our targeted goal needed to be able to continue bringing our Santa Cruz and Monterey audiences enlightening musical performances.

Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra Opens 2008–2009 Season with Royal Serenades

sunset_cntr

Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra opened its 2008–2009 season with Royal Serenades on November 8th at the historic Golden State Theatre in Monterey and November 9th at the First Congregational Church in Santa Cruz. The audiences at both venues received the music with great enthusiasm. “Royal Serenades” featured three brilliant works by Krommer, Mozart, and Dvorak. The Mozart was written for wind octet, the Krommer added a string bass to double the second bassoon, and the Dvorak added a third horn, cello, and bass. Each was written to serenade royalty. Our featured oboe soloist, Angie Burtz, was dazzling!

Next Concert
Be sure to mark your calendar for the remainder of the season! Our next concert, Discovery, begins at 8 pm on Friday, January 30, 2009, at the First Congregational Church in Santa Cruz and Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey. Both concerts will be preceded by Dr. John Anderson’s “Insights from the Conductor” at 7 pm. These “insights” enlighten and illuminate, providing audience members with stories that are sure to enhance the concert-goers’ experience. Bring a friend and enjoy an evening of works by Brahms, featuring clarinetist Erica Horn, and Tchaikovsky.

Birdies for Charity

Birdies for Charity is a fun way to make a charitable donation to the nonprofit organization of your choice – Ensemble Monterey!  Your pledge amount will be based on the number of combined birdies scored by PGA TOUR players during official tournament play at the 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-am golf tournament, February 12-15, 2009. You may pledge one cent or more per birdie scored during the tournament, or if you prefer, you may pledge a flat amount.  Each person who makes a pledge to Birdies for Charity also has the opportunity to guess the exact number of birdies that will be scored during the tournament. One lucky person who guesses correctly will win the Grand Prize of two Continental Airline tickets (Value up to $500 each). Other great prizes will be awarded through random drawings which will occur weekly, beginning December 1, 2008.  So get your pledges in to us soon, to have an opportunity to win one of the great weekly prizes! They include a one night stay at The Inn at Spanish Bay and one round of golf for two at The Links at Spanish Bay; a 32-inch LG LCD TV; Waterford crystal; one round of golf for two with a cart at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz; autographed golf memorabilia, and more.

Monterey Peninsula Foundation will invoice you in March for the amount you pledged and will provide a 10% match. This means Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra will actually receive 110% of all funds donated to us! Click here to make your pledge: https://birdies.attpbgolf.com/charities/ensemblemonterey. Because total birdie guesses cannot be submitted online, please email your guesses to Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra at info@ensemblemonterey.org.
